love my park returns 2025

How can a city transform its green spaces with the power of community involvement? Welland showed exactly how with its “Love My Park” program launched in 2023. Now, city officials are considering bringing back the successful initiative in 2025 after seeing positive results across six parks.

The original program focused on community-driven park improvements throughout Welland’s 400 hectares of parkland. Residents participated in various engagement activities, including on-site events, online forums, and even podcast discussions. These sessions featured games and interactive elements that made participation fun for people of all ages.

Community joy exploded across Welland’s 400 hectares as residents shaped their parks through fun, interactive engagement.

“Love My Park” turned ordinary citizens into decision-makers. Residents directly shaped their neighborhood parks by helping prioritize short-term fixes and long-term transformations. The city completed several immediate improvements in 2023, such as repairing infrastructure, adding benches, enhancing lighting, and addressing safety concerns.

The initiative perfectly aligned with Welland’s strategic goals of promoting health, well-being, and creating vibrant public spaces. Among the beloved community spaces that benefited from the program were Chippawa Park, Memorial Park, and Merritt Island Park, which are vital components of Welland’s recreational spaces system. Park improvements also delivered economic benefits by potentially increasing nearby property values and strengthening neighborhood connections.

The program wasn’t without challenges. City planners had to balance various community suggestions while working within budget constraints. Weather sometimes delayed outdoor engagement events, and officials needed to overcome initial public skepticism about whether resident feedback would lead to real action.

To build trust, the city provided transparent updates and guaranteed visible progress. Surveys and feedback mechanisms helped measure the program’s effectiveness and resident satisfaction. This approach turned initial doubts into enthusiasm as community members saw their ideas become reality.

If brought back in 2025, “Love My Park” would continue biannual engagement sessions to maintain momentum and address evolving community needs. The initiative’s return would further empower Welland residents to shape their public spaces, fostering local pride and creating parks that truly reflect what the community wants and needs.
