marlotta family centre construction

A new chapter in the fight against domestic violence began as construction started on the Marlotta Family Centre in Niagara. The groundbreaking marks the final phase of Gillian’s Place’s $10 million “Build a Safer Future Capital Campaign,” which has successfully raised funds through community donations and partnerships.

The Marlotta Family Centre will serve as a regional hub for domestic violence prevention and survivor support services. This new facility responds to the growing need for such services in the Niagara region. It will expand the capacity of Gillian’s Place to help those affected by domestic violence.

Acting as a regional hub, the Marlotta Family Centre addresses Niagara’s increasing demand for domestic violence prevention and support while expanding Gillian’s Place’s reach.

“This center will transform how we support survivors in our community,” said a representative from Gillian’s Place. The facility will offer emergency shelter, interim housing, and outreach programs designed to reach vulnerable populations throughout the region.

The center’s approach focuses on coordination with local law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community agencies. This collaboration guarantees survivors receive integrated care and support. Specialized programming for children, youth, and families affected by violence will also be available.

Prevention plays a key role in the center’s mission. Educational programs about healthy relationships will target schools and youth groups. Professional training will be provided to staff, law enforcement, and partner agencies to improve response to domestic violence cases.

The Marlotta Family Centre is expected to improve access to support services for those experiencing domestic violence in Niagara. Similar to The National Domestic Violence Hotline, the center will provide 24/7 confidential support to those in need. It aims to reduce rates of family violence through enhanced survivor support and early intervention strategies.

The project comes at a time when domestic violence services have seen increased demand. The new center will help alleviate pressure on existing shelters and outreach programs in the region.

Through partnerships with various stakeholders including police, healthcare providers, and community organizations, the Marlotta Family Centre hopes to create a model for survivor-centered practice. Input from survivors has been incorporated into the program development to confirm services meet real needs.

Construction is now underway with completion expected in the coming months.

Community collaboration is reshaping how support services are delivered to those who need them most. This project reflects a shift toward more inclusive, trauma-informed care models across the region. Follow progress on local health and social initiatives at Marketplace Niagara.
