As Fort Erie’s electric vehicle community continues to grow, the town’s charging infrastructure is expanding to meet rising demand. A recent $116,000 grant will fund four new charging stations in the area, markedly boosting the current network of nine public charging ports within 15 kilometers of Fort Erie.
The existing charging landscape consists primarily of Level 2 chargers, which make up 78% of available stations. These slower chargers are ideal for longer parking periods, while the remaining 22% are Level 3 DC fast chargers that provide rapid power for compatible vehicles. More than half of Fort Erie’s current stations offer free charging to users, making electric vehicle operation more affordable for locals and visitors.
Fort Erie’s charging network offers primarily Level 2 stations, with free charging at over half of all locations—making EV ownership more economical for everyone.
Most charging stations in Fort Erie are conveniently located along Garrison Road, a main transportation corridor. Notable locations include Canadian Tire at 240 Garrison Road, Patterson Chrysler Jeep at 527 Garrison Road, and another accessible site at 644 Garrison Road. Canadian Niagara Power Inc. on Bertie Street also hosts a charging station, creating a network that’s strategically positioned around the town’s busiest areas.
The charging infrastructure operates primarily through networks like FLO, Tesla, and EVConnect. While Tesla stations may require adapters for non-Tesla vehicles, many locations offer 24-hour access for drivers needing to charge at any time. The town currently maintains a total of 10 charging station ports spread across various locations.
The four new stations funded by the grant will likely follow the current distribution pattern of Level 2 and Level 3 chargers. This expansion aligns with broader initiatives to support EV adoption across Canada and will particularly benefit commuters and cross-border travelers.
Fort Erie’s growing charging network reflects the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in the region. As both public and private partners continue investing in this infrastructure, the town is becoming more accommodating to environmentally conscious drivers while preparing for a future with more electric transportation options.
