post foods charity partnership

While continuing its long tradition of community support, Post Foods has launched a weeklong series of charitable events in Niagara Falls to combat food insecurity. The cereal maker, which has produced Shreddies in the city since 1904, is working with Project Share to provide food to families in need through various activities.

The company has organized food drives, meal packing sessions, and financial contributions during the event. These efforts build on Post Foods’ history of giving, which includes donating over 137,000 kilograms of cereal to Project Share since 2010.

“We’re focused on making a difference where our employees live and work,” said a Post Foods representative. The company operates from its longtime Lewis Avenue location, which has been part of the city’s industrial landscape for over a century. The company’s charitable arm, the Better Together Foundation, has distributed $2.6 million in funding since 1966, primarily supporting hunger reduction programs.

Employee involvement has been central to the campaign’s success. About 500 staff members participated in the “Ingredients for Good” initiative, contributing 700 volunteer hours. Workers from the Niagara Falls plant packed meals for underserved families and supported local food pantries.

The timing of these efforts is essential, as food insecurity has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Project Share reports that the cereal donations have been critical in fighting child hunger, especially during school months when family needs increase.

The charitable work coincides with celebrations marking Shreddies’ 85 years of Canadian production. Community leaders have recognized Post Foods as an important contributor to Niagara Falls’ heritage, with events highlighting the factory’s industrial and cultural significance.

Beyond food security, Post Foods has incorporated sustainability into its community efforts. The company works with nonprofits to reduce waste and promote recycling, while upgrading facilities to meet low-carbon goals.

The partnership between Post Foods and local charities represents a model of corporate social responsibility with tangible community benefits. Through continued collaboration, they aim to create lasting positive change in Niagara Falls while addressing immediate needs.

Corporate partnerships like this are helping bridge the gap between environmental responsibility and community support. As local needs evolve, so do the strategies behind giving back. Find more examples of purpose-driven business initiatives on Marketplace Niagara.
