Artists across the Niagara Region have a new opportunity to showcase their talents. The City of St. Catharines has announced its 16th Annual Juried Art Exhibition titled “Layers,” inviting submissions from local artists. The exhibition will run from September 26, 2025, to March 13, 2026, at the third-floor gallery space in St. Catharines City Hall.
The exhibition welcomes original works from emerging, established, and student artists who live in the Niagara Region. Artists can submit up to three pieces created within the last three years in any medium. Three-dimensional works must fit within an 18-inch square display case due to space limitations.
“Layers” explores how artists use materials, concepts, or storytelling to create depth in their work. The theme encourages artists to reveal narratives, transformations, or histories through their creative expression. There’s no fee to submit artwork, making the opportunity accessible to all eligible artists.
The Cultural Services Office, part of Community, Recreation and Culture Services, manages this annual event that began in 2005. The exhibition aims to showcase local talent that reflects city stories and diverse perspectives. It’s also part of the broader City of St. Catharines Culture Plan 2025-2030.
Selected artists will receive exhibition fees for their participation. Some artworks may be chosen to enter the Civic Art Collection of St. Catharines, adding another level of recognition for participating artists.
The submission period opened in early April 2025 and runs until June 23, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. This six-month exhibition provides significant exposure for artists, as their work will be displayed in a prominent city location visited by many residents and visitors. Culture Coordinator Olivia Hope encourages participation, noting the program’s goal of unveiling hidden narratives through artistic expression.
The exhibition is one of several opportunities for local artists. The city also offers various temporary exhibits and public art projects throughout the year.
